Fashion designers are seriously lacking in inspiration the past five to ten years. First we brought back the sixties, where classic slimline pencil skirts came back in fashion. Not that I'm complaining as I find those more flattering on me than the A-line ones anyway. Oh, and Twiggy bobs. Next, these fashion designers brought back the seventies. Peasant tops and billowy skirts came into play. Peace out, bro.
Then they brought back the eighties and early nineties. Now this, this is one era of fashion trend which I never thought would be resurrected. I wanted it to burn, die and never come back. Over-bright neon, retro colours and patterns swirling around. Legwarmers. Shoulder pads. Plastic jewelry. Euuww.
And, very recently, this.
I remembered wearing these sneakers when I was 12 years old. I remembered begging my mum to get me LA Gear high-top sneakers. All my friends at church wore 'em. Or cool Reeboks. Nike was very high-end to us young 'uns back then, so if you even owned a pair of Reeboks, you'd have all your friends wowing over your sparkly new colourful shoes. My mum never gotten me LA Gear, of course, 'cos they were expensive. She got me a pair of cheaper Power sneakers, which looked just as good as the LA Gears and Reeboks.
After a while, the trend wore off. Truth be told, I got really tired of the crazy mismatched colours which could never go with any piece of clothing I owned. I was absolutely relieved that simple trainers came into fashion. Being a slave to fashion had given me many ugly photos of my younger self. Never again, I said. Those shoes should just burn in hell.
So please, please tell me why these horrendous shoes are back?!
And at AUD200 a pair? Believe me when I say that people actually paid good money for these shoes. Sigh.

Launch of Collette Dinnigan for Target at Chadstone

Next in line in Designers for Target Australia is the Collette Dinnigan for Target collection.
It was launched today in all Target stores in Australia. After a gentle reminder from Geekchic on the night before, I started out for Chadstone the next morning, excited to see what was in store.
Internationally acclaimed Australian designer, Collette Dinnigan, designed a collection of intimate apparel for Target, called Wild Hearts. According to Dinnigan, the collection features some of her signature lace, embroidery and silk printed fabrics which have been designed to make women experience the exclusiveness of one of her garments.
Below are some of the pieces featured in the Wild Hearts collection. You can check out the full collection in the Designers for Target website.
This time, the response is more quiet compared to Zac Posen's. There were still a number of ladies who came to check out the underwear, but not as many as before. I guess the hype for this is just not as strong.
Obviously I did not pose with these bras and panties in the fitting room and snap photos of myself like before, but I did leave the store with a lil' something-something ;)
All purchased Collette Dinnigan for Target pieces would go into this pretty baby pink and black paper bag.
I came out with a set of undies from the collection - a pair of La Vie En Rose high-cut briefs (sadly I'm not that into thongs, although those were pretty hot) and a La Vie En Rose Balconette bra. God I love it when my bras have proper names to 'em :p
All in all, I think the collection's not all that great. The designs were pretty average, in fact. There were some granny-looking brown bras. Ugh. I expected more *shrug*.
The bras are priced at AUD39.99 each, panties AUD19.99, thongs AUD16.99, French knickers AUD24.99, and the sheer slips around AUD79.99.
Note: By the way, Target has restocked some of the Zac Posen pieces. Unfortunately, all the good ones were sold out, and will remain sold out. Dang.

I was actually contemplating on not going for the launch of the Zac Posen for Target today due to the cold weather, and if the crazy wind storm yesterday was going to come back again. It's a 30 minute walk to Chadstone, with lots of trees around, and I sure as heck am not going to risk my life for this :P
Thank God the winds weren't as strong today, and the sun was up albeit pretty cold. With my woolies, I took a walk to the shopping centre, and reached there at around 10am.
The entrance of Target did not have any big banners or such declaring the launch of the new collection, but there were a few sales people, all nicely suited up for the occasion, welcoming customers into the store, and were carrying out questionnaires.
There were a LOT of women checking out the collection. They were simply taking the outfits out in stacks to have them tried out at the fitting room. The collection has a lot of black, white, red, brown and purple-yellow outfits. Not really my thing, but I thought I'd give 'em a try.
Please excuse the quality of the photos you see below. I had to sneak my camera in, because photography was not allowed in the shopping centre. I had to switch to my mobile phone's camera next, as the digital camera was making too loud a noise everytime I snapped a photo. I tried out four pieces.
I can't really recall the exact price of the dresses below, but they are in the AUD179.99 to AUD199.99 range.
The purple dress is really odd. There was this long piece of purple ribbon attached to the dress which you're supposed to loop over the other shoulder or something. I think it looks weird, but I reckon it's just me that it looks ugly on :p
I didn't try the rest of the funny-looking purple-yellow outfits. It would be too obvious to the sales assistants that I was simply trying them on for fun without even buying. Any other time would be fine, but since today's the launch and everyone's busier than bees, I thought I'd cut them some slack.
I ended up buying nothing from the collection. Even the quality of the red dress was seriously good, I just couldn't bring myself to buy it just yet. Plus, the more I looked at the puffy sleeves, the more turned off I got. Oh well. The experience was fun though.
My biggest disappointment (and I was really ticked off by this) is that they don't stock the Zac Posen for Target bag in Chadstone! According to the Designers for Target website, Chadstone was supposed to stock the full range collection (except for the ottoman dress), but when I checked with the sales assistant regarding the bag, she said that there weren't any. Gah.
The ottoman dress is the red dress which was made famous by Katherine Heigl at the 2007 Emmy Awards.
At Zac Posen's request, this dress was produced in limited numbers to maintain its exclusivity. You'll have to register at the Designers For Target website in order to be in the waiting list to be able to buy the dress. Bear in mind that not everyone who registers with the site will be able to buy the dress, as they will have to match with the available stock. The ottoman dress is sold at AUD299.99.
The website now displays the entire Zac Posen for Target collection (this was not available before today). You can check out the collection here.
Oh, and please do not compare me with the model :p

Just to show you what kind of clothing items will be available from the Zac Posen for Target line, I took a snapshot of a page in the April issue of InStyle Australia.
There's a genuine replica (oxymoron, I know, but if Zac Posen did the replica, would it still be a fake?) of the dress Katherine Heigl wore to the 2007 Emmy Awards. It will be available in Target for AUD299.99. It's one of the highlights of his collection for Target.
I'll be in Chadstone on April 3 for the launch, just to see how well-received it will be (or not). A countdown is already going on in the store, giving the hype. This should be interesting. Now I don't know about you, but I don't believe in spending a lot of money on the latest fashion that would probably go out of season in a few months, and MIGHT come back in a few years (or not. Begone for good, you shoulder pads!) I do believe, however, in investing on classic pieces like a crisp white shirt, a good pair of jeans, etc.
Anyhoos, I digress.
Today is about more good finds which I managed to get when I was in the city a couple of weeks ago. They were at 50% off the original price (yay for me).
Now these aren't the tops I'd normally wear, but for some reason the psychedelic colours attracted me. I really like the second one (love the colours).
I wore these with calf-length leggings. Now I know this doesn't suit everyone as it tends to make people look stumpy. But funny enough, I looked pretty good in it :p The black leggings made my legs look slimmer and somehow the top was flattering on the figure. Oh, and I bought the leggings for only AUD9, so no complaints there.
This look (wearing a longish top with leggings) was actually an IN thing back in the 90s. I remembered wearing something like this to church when I was about 12. Give it a good decade or so, and the fashion returns.
I'm just praying hard that shoulder pads never, EVER come back.
Anyhoos, I digress.

Finally headed to the city after nearly a month here. You'd think I'd have gone earlier, eh? I have absolutely no idea why I didn't go earlier; I remembered my first trip here, I headed to the city on the third day!

Went to Brand Smart on Sunday. It's one of 'em factory outlet emporiums in Melbourne. We passed the store on the way to Chadstone, and I figured we'd drop by just to have a look.
Anyways, yadda yadda yadda, to cut the long story short, we headed to the Esprit outlet store. I'm not a fan of Esprit clothing now (I was, when I was young, when I thought it was such an IN brand. Esprit's ridiculously priced in Malaysia anyway), but since there was an-up-to-70%-discount sale going on, I thought we'd check it out.
As usual, I didn't see much of what I'd like in Esprit, but I did pick up a t-shirt.
Anyways, that's not the fabulous part. Let's zoom in the good bits now, shall we?

This one's my favourite (love the colours). The dark band in the middle hides a thick waist. Wear that with oversized sunnies, and wedges, and it's off to Sunday lunch with the girls for me :p

I originally wanted to get one when I was in Melbourne, but I couldn't find one which I liked (plus the ones I saw weren't exactly easy on the wallet). When I saw this one at Nichii, I just had to snap it up. And at RM70, you can't really go wrong.
Nichii has very good pieces at very affordable prices. Now that the Malaysian Mega Sale is on (16 June to 2 September), you can get the latest fashion at even better prices. It stocks work wear, trendy pieces, and also evening wear. At first glance, some of the pieces might be a little tacky, but trust me, it won't be difficult to find the good stuff.

(I LOVED this show, by the way) One of the best parts of the show was checking out Cher's (Alicia Silverstone) fantastic automated closet (I definitely want me one of those), and that fantastic software of hers which allowed her to coordinate her outfit.
I mean, just how cool is that? I actually tried creating that software when I got older, but it was a flop. Luckily, there's no need for that now, because Software de Arte came up with Dress Assistant, which allows you to save pictures of your individual pieces, and coordinate them.
Mix and match with accessories and shoes, go wild with it. It's like going through your closet, but without the mess. Unfortunately it doesn't alert you if you coordinated the wrong pieces though. Darn.
I tried the demo, which sadly only allows you to add up to 20 items. But hey, it's worth trying it out, plus the graphics are quite good (I like the hand-drawn concept). It's available on PC and MAC.
I mean, like, isn't it, like, just, so cool?
PS: Maybe I could try coming up with the software once again. Hmm ... PROJECT!! :p
