After reading Paris' take on double cleansing, I thought I'd give it a go. My initial opinion of double-cleansing was "Huh? Clean twice? Won't it activate even more sebum on my face?" The answer, after trying it out for a bit, is no.

The oil-based cleanser I'm currently using is Kanebo Freshel White C Cleansing Oil. I know that Shu Uemura has a popular range of cleansing oils, but as they're currently a bit too expensive for me, I thought I'd try out Kanebo's lower-end range. And I was not disappointed.


I use the cleansing oil on the days which I wear makeup. Since I wear foundation, blusher and all that to work, I tend to do the double-cleansing ritual after work. The cleansing oil did a good job removing all the foundation and other makeup off my face, leaving no residue. What was even better was that it left my skin feeling soft and smooth. It was not at all oily, nor did it cause extra sebum builtup on my face. Props to Kanebo for that.

A little information about double cleansing, for those who aren't too sure about how that works:

1. Apply the cleansing oil to your entire face and massage it into areas with more makeup, gently working into the eyes.
2. Wash it off with water, thus removing all makeup (leave the eyes for last, but be very gentle with them). Make sure your hands are absolutely dry when you pour the cleansing oil onto your hands before working it onto your face. When the oil mixes with water, it will emulsify.
3. Next, lather your face with your normal cleanser, and wash your face thoroughly.
4. Tone, and then moisturise.

I have combination skin, and so far, there are no problems with my skin, which is good. I'm quite liking this cleansing oil; I might just buy another bottle of this once it's finished ;)

What I like about it: Doesn't leave any makeup residue on the skin; after wash, it leaves my skin soft and supple.

What I did not like about it: Nothing really.
